Two killed in bus accident

KOCHI OCT.16. Two persons were killed and at least five injured in an accident involving two private buses near Oorakam junction in the Cherpu police station limits in Thrissur today. Both the buses were burnt by an angry mob of onlookers, according to Cherpu police.

The dead were identified as Mani (45), Vadakkeveedu, Melepparambu, Viswakarma Nagar, Palakkad, and Lonappan (57), Kanjirathingal House, Irinjalakkuda.

Overspeeding of one of the buses was said to be the cause of the accident.

One of the buses involved in the accident, `Dhanalakshmi', operating a limited stop service, was on its way to Paravur from Thrissur while the other, `M.S. Menon', was an ordinary service, proceeding from Kodungallur to Thrissur.

A hartal was observed in the area following the accident.

The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals and cases were being registered against those responsible for the accident.

Cases were also registered against those who burnt the buses, according to the police.
