Jammu & Kashmir
Prikshit Singh, a student of Government Polytechnic for Boys, Jammu, sprinkled kerosene on his body and set himself on fire. Even as students from other polytechnics participating in the demonstration, rushed to save their colleague and extinguished the flames, Prikshit fell unconscious and sustained minor burns. He was immediately rushed to the Gandhi Nagar hospital where doctors declared him ``out of danger''. Police also reached the spot and controlled the situation. They raised slogans against the Jammu Kashmir technical board and demanded re-evaluation of their answer sheets. The protesting students, including girls, were also demanding introduction of carry-on system in Polytechnics and a through probe into the alleged irregularities in the exam results. -- UNI
