White Paper on Stree Shakti sought

By Our Special Correspondent

GULBARGA Oct. 18. The President of the State unit of the All-India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD), K.N. Nage Gowda, today urged the State Government to bring out a White Paper on the implementation of the Stree Shakti scheme.

He told presspersons here that only 24,000 of the 79,500 self-help groups formed under the scheme had been given a subsidy of Rs. 5,000 each, and most of them were finding it difficult to market their products in the absence of proper marketing facilities.

He said the White Paper should contain reasons for not extending subsidy to all self-help groups. The Government should ensure that these groups served the purpose for which they were constituted.

Mr. Nage Gowda said the Government should conduct a resurvey of poor families for the distribution of yellow ration cards.

It should extend the Public Distribution System to the poor, he added.
