Ananth praises Centre, hits out at State Govt.

By Our Staff Correspondent

BELLARY Oct. 18. India has emerged a "super power" in the world under the leadership of the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, the President of the State unit of the BJP, H.N. Ananth Kumar, has said.

Addressing a gathering at the BDAA grounds as part of the `Janasangharsha Yatra' here on Friday, Mr. Ananth Kumar said that during the Kargil war, the Prime Minister had rejected the suggestion of the U.S. President to hold a dialogue with Pakistan, and saw to it that Pakistan's designs did not succeed. The Prime Minister's action had instilled confidence in soldiers and also the public, he said.

The State BJP chief pointed out that under the BJP-led NDA Government, the country was exporting rice and had extended financial assistance to other countries.

He said that the Vajpayee Government had come out with several welfare schemes and had accorded top priority for creating infrastructure. The Centre had also started direct funding to gram panchayats.

Compared to the "development stance" of the NDA Government, the State Government had failed to rise to the expectations of the people. He accused the State Government of adopting "anti-poor" and "anti-farmer" policies.

He said that suicide by farmers was continuing even after a special package was announced.

Taking a dig at the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna's `Janaspandana Yatra', Mr. Ananth Kumar sought to know whether the Chief Minister had to tour the districts to collect petitions. "If it was so, what was the district administration doing," he sought to know, and described the Chief Minister's yatra as a "gimmick".

Mr. Ananth Kumar also said that `Janaspandana Yatra' was an attempt to divert the attention of the public from the squabbling in the Congress.

He appealed to the people to oust the Congress from power and give a mandate for the BJP for good governance.

Jagadish Shettar, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, B.S. Yediyurappa, Chairman of the party Campaign Committee, M.R. Tanga, MLC, G. Janardhana Reddy, President of the district unit of the party, and B. Sriramulu, party leader, spoke.

Earlier, a procession was taken out in the city in which leaders and party workers participated.
