The Proddatur MLA, N. Varadarajulu Reddy, the former Minister, D.L. Ravindra Reddy, and the ZP vice-chairman, P. Ravindranath Reddy, all belonging to the Congress oarty, the KC Canal Ayacutdars' Association president, Maseema Rajagopala Reddy, the CPI leader, K. Linga Murthy, the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh leader, Venkatarami Reddy, the Cuddapah District Rythu Sangham general secretary, D. Chandramouleeswara Reddy, the A.P. Youth Congress general secretary, S. Jayasimha Raju, and the ZPTC member, Govinda Reddy, discussed the developments and the course of action in the R & B guest house this evening. Later addressing a press conference, they demanded water release for the first wetting from November 15 and second wetting from December 15, in accordance with the promise made by the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu. They also demanded closure of the construction vents at Sunkesula barrage and regulation of water discharge to 67 cusecs as per the conventional requirement for the old Sunkesula anicut. They sought impounding of water in Velugode project, lest release of water from Srisailam reservoir to KC Canal would be hit. They also demanded release of five tmcft of water allotted from Tungabhadra to KC Canal, without linking it with the drinking water needs of Kurnool town. Recalling the agitations launched on the demands, they sought scrapping of the G.O. No. 69, which sought to reduce the MDDL to 834 ft. and alleged that it was against the fundamental engineering norms. With the Pothireddipadu sill level at 841 ft., through which the KC Canal, SRBC and Telugu Ganga projects could be given water, the G.O. if kept in force, would deprive the projects of water on a permanent basis, leading to desertification of Rayalaseema region, they maintained.
