Kumble's 50 against New Zealand

By Mohandas Menon

** Robbie Hart's wicket was Anil Kumble's 50th against the Kiwis in 11

Tests. He joins Bishan Singh Bedi (57 in 12) and EAS Prasanna (55 in 10) to take 50 or more wickets against New Zealand.

** New Zealand recorded its second highest total in Tests after the 671-4 it made against Sri Lanka at Wellington in February, 1991.

** The previous highest total by the Kiwis away from home was 553-7 decl. against Australia at Brisbane in November, 1985.

** The Kiwi batsmen provided the 10th instance in Tests when four or more hundreds were scored in the same innings. New Zealand had achieved this feat once before — against Australia at Perth in December, 2001.

** The only other occasion this has occurred on Indian soil was when the West Indians did so at Delhi way back in November, 1948.

** The 164-run partnership between Aakash Chopra and Virender Sehwag was India's second best against New Zealand for the opening wicket. Only the world record partnership of 413 between Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy at Madras exceeds the Chopra-Sehwag effort.

** Sehwag (when on 82) became the 48th Indian to reach 1000 runs in Tests. in his 16th Test & 24th innings.
