`BJP prepared for early poll'

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Oct. 18. The Union Minister of State for Urban Development, B. Dattatreya, has forecast elections to the State Assembly and Parliament before schedule going by the political situation.

The BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, had said as much at the recent chintan baithak of the State unit of the party in the city, he told reporters here on Saturday.

Mr. Dattatreya said the BJP was prepared to face the polls whenever they were held.

The BJP State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, who was also present, deplored the arrest of "Ram bhakts'' at Ayodhya and criticised the UP Government for resorting to the measure instead of stepping up security and allowing their "pooja'' programme to go on unhindered. He quoted instances like Ganesh processions, Kumbh mela and Godavari Pushkarams which are never foiled on security grounds. The same yardstick should have been followed in the case of pooja at Ayodhya by stepping up security arrangements, he added.

Supporting the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) cause of temple construction, Mr. Reddy said the BJP, however, opposed the VHP call for bandh on the issue on Sunday.

The BJP State president released the schedule of party meetings in the coming days. The presidents of district units would meet here on Sunday and the meeting would continue the next day with Ministers, MPs, zonal in-charges and chairmen of various bodies joining.

The State-level conventions of kisan and Mahila morchas would be held here on October 22 and 23 and the Assembly constituency-level meetings throughout the State completed from November 15 to December 24. The party will hold meetings in every village to mark the birthday celebrations of Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, on December 25.
