New Delhi
By Our Staff Reporter
Addressing a joint press conference, both Mr. Khurana and Mr. Malhotra said the outbreak of dengue in the Capital had created panic and citizens of the city were living in fear. The failure of the civic authorities to act decisively and effectively has further aggravated the situation. It has also proved hollow the claims of the Congress Chief Minister and other leaders that everything was fine. Mr. Khurana demanded the immediate resignation of Ms. Dikshit, the Delhi Mayor, Ashok Kumar Jain and the Standing Committee Chairman, Ram Babu Sharma, for their failure to tackle the situation. Accusing the Delhi Government of hiding facts, Mr. Khurana said they had authentic information that the Government had been trying to suppress the casualty figures. Investigations had revealed that 30 people had died and more than 2,000 had been admitted to various Delhi hospitals. And the number of patients coming to the hospitals has been on the rise and the fact that National Human Rights Commission had taken note of the situation was an indication of the fact that things were getting out of control. Mr. Malhotra said the women wing of BJP would hold a protest demonstration in front of Town Hall on October 20, while the BJP Yuva Morcha would hold a demonstration on October 21 at the Delhi Secretariat. On October 22, all the 16 districts of the BJP would form a human chain outside the MCD Zonal offices to lodge their protest against the callous attitude of the authorities. He said the fact was that the Congress- ruled MCD and the Sheila Dikshit Government had failed to ensure proper cleaning of the nullahs and drains after the conclusion of monsoon and this had led to the present situation where people have to bear the brunt of the inefficiency of the Government agencies. On the issue of repair of roads, the BJP leaders charged that despite having announced that all roads would be repaired by September 30, nearly 80 per cent of the Delhi roads were still in poor shape. The fact was that tenders had been floated for repair works but work was carried out only on paper.
