A.C. Muthiah (left), former president, Board of Control for Cricket in India, with N. Srinivasan, president, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, in the newly built press box at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muthiah said the press box, that is air-conditioned, would be a wonderful facility, providing journalists much respite from the hot Chennai weather. He had words of praise for the TNCA president N. Srinivasan for the speedy construction of the press box and the TNCA Club. He also acknowledged the effort of V.A. Parthasarathy, vice-president, TNCA, and executive secretary, the TNCA Club. Mr. Muthiah said he was happy that the TNCA had managed to smoothen the rough edges vis-à-vis the BCCI. The relations between the TNCA and the BCCI, that had become somewhat strained following the Board elections in 2001, had now taken a turn for the better, he added. Mr. Srinivasan called the occasion "an august day in the history of TNCA," and said he felt a great sense of satisfaction. The view from the press and the corporate boxes was spectacular, he said. He reiterated that the media would be provided with the latest communication facilities. The coming up of the TNCA Club had fulfilled a long-felt need among the TNCA member clubs, Mr. Srinivasan said. He thanked V.A. Parthasarathy for "his single minded sense of purpose for ensuring that the job was completed." Mr. C.R. Vijayaraghavan, secretary, TNCA, proposed a vote of thanks.
