The `Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana', as the scheme will be known, makes it mandatory for all emigrants with ECR endorsement on their passports to take an insurance policy from any insurance company operating in India and duly registered with the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA). Each national applying for emigration clearance from the Protector of Emigrants (POE) will now have to obtain an insurance policy valid for a minimum of two years or the actual period of employment, whichever is less.
