The "former mentor" of the RJD supremo, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Mr. Yadav took almost two years after his expulsion from the RJD to launch a national-level party. Delegates from some States were present at the inaugural function. Mr. Yadav claimed that he enjoyed a good following among RJD MLAs, which was evident from the 31 votes he had secured in the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha last year. He, however, had lost the elections. He said his party would strive for social harmony and secularism and oppose communalism and corruption.
