Letters to the Editor
Sir, I refer to your editorial, " A crisis deftly defused " (Oct. 20), on the Ayodhya crisis. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, has shown the nation that if there is political will, any situation can be dealt with effectively. The then Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, and Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, watched the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992 and failed to uphold the rule of law.
P.P. Hameed,
* * * Sir, The way Mr. Yadav, the U.P. police and the Faizabad civil administration handled the crisis raises the hopes of the common man. We were apprehensive of the communal moves of the Sangh Parivar and their possible repercussions.
C.S. Verma,
* * * Sir, We only wish the VHP and its leaders mobilise people and do something more constructive. Nothing much is gained by raising the Ayodhya dispute every now and then. The nation's energy is being wasted in dousing the fire created by a handful of leaders who should know better.
D.B.N. Murthy,
* * * Sir, I refer to L.K. Advani's call to isolate nations practising terrorism (Oct. 16). But isolation should not be limited to nations alone. It should include organisations such as the VHP, the Bajrang Dal and the RSS.
Ashraf K.,
