Letters to the Editor
Sir, The beatification of Mother Teresa in Rome was a glorious moment for India. It is unfortunate that her beatification ceremony has been a low-key affair here, especially in political circles and educational institutions. The Government could have organised a special prayer in Parliament and the Prime Minister spoken a few words on the occasion. This would have enhanced our secular image.
Sutirtha Sahariah,
* * * Sir, This is with reference to India sending a low-level delegation for the ceremony (Oct. 20). I agree that our country should have sent a senior Minister.
K. Srinivas Raju,
* * * Sir, Maybe, the senior Cabinet Ministers were busy tackling the RSS and the VHP in Ayodhya.
Muthu Ravi,
* * * Sir, India declared a state funeral for Mother Teresa and honoured her with the Bharat Ratna. Her elevation to the ranks of the Blessed was a purely religious ceremony.
V.V.S. Sarma,
* * * Sir, Mother Teresa's beatification is a sort of re-affirmation of what she had already achieved in life through selfless service to the deprived and the poorest of the poor. She became a legend in her lifetime.
K.L. Batra,
