Sir, It is distressing to find that the child sex ratio in India is 927 girls to 1000 boys against a world average of 1045 women to 1000 men (Oct. 21). Preference for sons is the biggest impediment in the stabilisation of population. Besides maintaining strict vigilance on clinics, which help determine the sex of the child in the garb of scanning, there is need to educate people about the imbalance that can be caused if the trend continues.
N. Subhalakshmi,
