A leopard on a prowl in the Paukhaal area of Pauri Garhwal has been declared as man-eater by the state forest authorities. ``The terror striking leopard has been declared a man-eater and services of a professional hunter has been sought to kill the beast,'' according to a spokesperson of the wild life department. Two suspected man-eaters have already been killed by hunters earlier, reports said. A leopard was killed by police at Debagram locality in Mohammed Bazar area of West Bengal's Birbhum district after it attacked 10 persons, a senior police officer said. The animal, which had strayed into human habitations from a jungle close to Jhakhand-West Bengal border a few days back, was shot at as earlier efforts to trap it by forest and police officials failed, Superintendent of Police Akhil Roy said. Of the 10 injured in the attack in the past few days, there was a member of National Volunteer Force (NVF). The Gujarat forest department officials have trapped a female leopard at Menpur village under Vadodara forest range, taking the total number of panthers caught in the past three days to three. All the panthers trapped by the forest department have been sent to Sakarbag zoo at Junagadh, official sources said here today. A female leopard was also found dead at Nathudi village in Thanpur forest range, they said. -- PTI
