Showcasing city, the giant way

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Oct. 21. The MCH is going for a hard sell making use of the opportunity of the Afro-Asian Games about to kick off in a few days here. A 13-minute documentary has been made ready that not only gives an overview of the activities being taken up in the twin cities, but also has public service messages.

The breezy film gives an insight into the developmental activities taken up in the last few years in the areas of sanitation, upkeep of public parks, road widening, carpeting and so on, while extolling citizens to participate in the process of keeping the city clean and green. The concept of separation of domestic waste at the household stage itself, vermicomposting, developing colony parks and the likes are to be shown in the film.

Along with it, there will be two 30-second jingles about the civic body that has recently won CRISIL awards for financial management, solid waste management and accounting reforms. These promotional films are to be shown at the 20-odd sites where the MCH has set up giant screens with LCD facility in different parts for the people to watch the Afro-Asian Games `live'.

The telecast to be taken from the Doordarshan feed would be between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. during the entire duration of the Games, the sports events as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, according to the MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran. The MCH documentaries and jingles would be shown in between the sporting activities.

Along with the catchy theme song of the Games, amazing images of Africa and Asia would be shown. Interesting part of the theme song already being aired in some television channels is the presence of film actor, Chiranjeevi, and badminton star, Gopichand, in it. There are others like tennis star, Leander Paes, film actors -- Sanjay Kapoor and Azbaaz Khan. The giant screens would also inform people about the important landmarks of the city.

The screens are being set up at the Chacha Nehru Park, KBR Park, NFCL junction, Telugu Talli statue, Khairatabad railway station, military auditorium, Moghalpura playgrounds, Charminar, Maisaram playground, Amberpet stadium, HPS Begumpet, Victory playground, Parade grounds, NTR stadium, police control room, Netaji statue near Secunderabad railway station, Khilawat grounds, Malakpet - B block quarters and Rahimpura playground.
