Promoted by the Computer Society of India in association with the SSI Education and the Aptech Computer Education, the literacy mission will offer IT programmes throughout the country for Rs. 499. It includes a 12-hour programme that focusses on learning how to work on MS Office applications. First 10,000 candidates will get the course absolutely free, said P. Unnikrishnan, honorary director, CSI. The mission hopes to empower 2.5 lakh citizens with IT literacy. The programme has already been launched in Kerala and will soon be launched in Pondicherry, he said.
