India, Czech Republic sign agreement

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI OCT. 22 . India and the Czech Republic have signed an agreement on defence cooperation. They have also agreed to constitute a joint committee for the purpose, to meet annually. Czech has been a long-standing supplier of some defence use items, notably heavy duty trucks. A Defence Ministry release said the agreement was signed by the Defence Minister, George Fernandes, with his Czech counterpart, Miroslav Kostelka, in Prague on Tuesday.

Mr. Fernandes also held discussions with the Czech Prime Minister, Vladimir Spidla. He also visited the Tetra truck factory whose products have served the Indian armed forces for decades and witnessed a live demonstration by a frontline Czech unit specialising in nuclear, biological and chemical counter-measures.
