CPCB to test decibel levels of crackers

NEW DELHI Oct. 22. The Central Pollution Control Board will monitor the levels of noise and air pollution across the country on Deepavali. The Board has been doing this since 1993 to see the environmental impact of crackers during the festival. The CPCB, this year, will test firecrackers to ascertain the decibel levels. Those with higher levels will be taken off the market. The ambient noise monitoring will be carried out for a short duration (30 minutes) at eight locations: Connaught Place, India Gate, Mayur Vihar - II, Patel Nagar, AIIMS, New Friends Colony and East Arjun Nagar between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. on October 25. Noise monitoring for a longer duration (six hours) will be carried out at Kamla Nagar, ITO, Patel Nagar and Dilshad Garden at the same time.

The Board has carried out pre-festival tests on October 17 for comparison. Pre-Deepavali noise monitoring for long duration during 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. was carried out at Patel Nagar on Wednesday.
