Mr. Wickremesinghe's visit to Washington scheduled for November 4, follows a high-profile meeting with the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in New Delhi earlier this month. The Wickremesinghe-Bush meeting will also be the first high-profile international visit by the Sri Lankan premier after the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam submits its counter-proposals, expected on October 31. According to indications available, the LTTE is likely to demand political powers to administer Sri Lanka's northeast with control over police, land, revenue and security subjects specifically excluded by Colombo in its offer of an LTTE-majority, non-elected provisional administrative structure.
