Deepavali tragedy: two killed

RAJAHMUNDRY OCT. 25. P. Rajababu (35) of Iripaka village and a five-year-old boy of Jaggampeta died on spot and nine others were injured when a crackers shop in Jaggampeta area, about 35 km from here, caught fire leading to an explosion. All the nine were admitted to hospital and the condition of two was stated to be serious. The incident occurred around noon.

According to police, P. Rajababu went to the shop and wanted to know whether, in view of continuous rain in the last couple of days, the crackers would burst. The shop owner promised that the crackers were of good quality. But to test the efficacy, he lighted a cracker which, while burning, accidentally fell on the bulk of crackers in the shop and there was a big explosion. Two shops were reduced to ashes.
