Largest district, single Assembly constituency

By Our Staff Correspondent

JAIPUR OCT. 25. Strange though it may sound, Jaisalmer in western Rajasthan, largest district in the country, comprises a single constituency for the coming Assembly elections, while Jaipur district has the maximum of 15 constituencies of the total of 200 in the State. The sparse population in the desert region of Jaisalmer has led to the delimitation of the whole district as a single constituency, though its geographical area is huge.

An official release issued by the State Government's Election Department, listing the number of constituencies in each district, stated that while Alwar had 11 Assembly constituencies, Udaipur and Nagaur had 10 each and Bharatpur, Ajmer and Jodhpur had 9 each.

Sikar, Bhilwara and Pali districts have 8 constituencies each, while Jhunjhunu and Chittaurgarh have 7 each, Churu, Hanumangarh and Barmer have 6 each, and Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Dausa, Tonk, Kota, Jhalawar, Banswara and Jalore districts have 5 each. The comparatively smaller districts of Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, Bundi, Baran, Dungarpur and Rajsamand have four constituencies each and Dholpur and Sirohi have three each.
