Announcement soon on Ganga-Cauvery project

By Our Staff Reporter

Ramanathapuram Oct. 25. The Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will shortly announce the implementation of a Ganga-Cavuery river project for the benefit of farmers, the State BJP general secretary, H. Raja, told presspersons here on Saturday.

An action plan was already drawn up at an estimated cost of Rs. 5,60,000 crores.

As suggested by the Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, criminal action might be taken against the Congress MP, Mani Shankar Aiyar, for ``abusing'' the Chief Minister, Jayalaithaa, in a recent government function near Nagapattinam.

On the proposed agitations by the DMK, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance, against the Prevention of Terrorism Act, Mr. Raja said the party should have expressed its opinion either in Parliament or in the Cabinet meetings.

The Madurai - Mandapam gauge conversion works would be completed at the earliest and adequate funds allotted for the conversion of the Tiruchi - Manamadurai line.

Kumaran Sethupathy, the Raja of Ramnad, and his supporters would join the BJP at a public meeting in December, said Mr. Raja.
