Madurai lawyer moves SC for advance bail

By Our Legal Correspondent

New Delhi Oct. 25. The Supreme Court will hear on Monday a special leave petition, filed by a non-practising advocate of Madurai, seeking anticipatory bail in a case of alleged forgery and creating a forged document.

T. Villayan Kothai, apprehended arrest in the case registered against him by the Madurai central crime branch. The Madras High Court rejected his application seeking anticipatory bail.

The petitioner said a criminal complaint was filed against him in a civil dispute only to harass him and he apprehended custodial violence and ill-treatment at the hands of the Madurai police.

Subsequent to the court rejecting his application, the police on October 13 issued a notice in a Tamil newspaper directing him to appear within three days and participate in the investigation. The next day, the police broke open and ransacked his house at Sambakulam, K. Pudur, and removed various documents, said Mr. Villayan Kothai.
