India's final effort: Fernandes

NEW DELHI OCT. 25. India's latest peace initiative is the "final effort" towards taking the peace process with Pakistan forward and to its logical end, the Defence Minister, George Fernandes, has said.

In an interview on NDTV today, he said India had taken the initiative and it must be taken to its logical end. "What the Prime Minister has done is to make one last effort to see that it is taken to its logical end," he said, referring to the series of measures offered to Islamabad by the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, recently. A lot of people had tried to tell Mr. Vajpayee not to call it the last effort."[But] the fact of the matter is that ultimately even the Prime Minister can get tired." — UNI
