BJP to focus on `feel-good factor'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI OCT. 25. The Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh and Delhi going to the polls is likely to move into top gear from the middle of next month.

A senior party functionary said the campaign might start simultaneously in each of these States.

The plan is to " carpet-bomb'' the five States by starting campaign the same day. Almost the entire top leadership of the party will be involved.

According to the BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu, the focus will be on the "feel-good factor " generated by the policies of the Vajpayee Government and the "misdeeds of the Congress Governments in the States''.

The overriding theme is the "progress" made under Mr. Vajpayee but the campaign will be State-specific and each State will have a separate manifesto. The party has prepared talking points for its campaigners based on the "charge sheets" prepared by the State units.

In order to counter the Congress charge that its State Governments have been discriminated against by the Centre, the BJP has prepared the details of the assistance given by the Vajpayee Government and the "under-utilisation" by the Congress-ruled States.

The BJP's central election committee is expected to give the "go-ahead" to its Chief Ministerial aspirants in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan to contest the elections.

On Friday, Mr. Naidu said the party had not barred the Chief Ministerial aspirants from contesting the elections.
