Mufti calls for open dialogue

Srinagar Oct. 25. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, said today that there was a need for an open dialogue with all groups to resolve the Kashmir issue and no one should come to the table with "pre-conceived ideas".

Addressing a public rally here, he said, "The Central Government has made a historic announcement for an open dialogue with the separatist groups. The well-wishers of the people of Jammu and Kashmir should respond to this offer as no less a person than the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, would talk to them. Let every one come to the table and discuss the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

The dialogue had its own parameters and problems could not be approached through a pre-conceived recipe or course of action."

Praising the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said the Prime Minister had made a number of announcements in the last few months which had sent positive signals to the people of the State.

The spirit of these pronouncements should not be diluted.

Emphasising the importance of the proposal of opening the Uri-Muzzafarabad road network, Mr. Sayeed said the Pakistan establishment should respond to Mr. Vajpayee's offer. The leadership of both the countries should not miss this historic opportunity in the larger interests of the people of the State, he added.
