India, China conclude first round of talks

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent.

NEW DELHI OCT. 25. The first round of talks between the Special Representatives of India and China on the border dispute, Brajesh Mishra and Dai Bingguo, concluded on Friday with an agreement to meet again on "mutually-acceptable" dates in Beijing.

"The meeting was held in a cordial, constructive and cooperative atmosphere," a press statement issued after the meeting said about the October 23-24 session.

Mr. Dai, it added, called on the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha. The two Special Representatives have been asked to explore from a political standpoint the framework of a solution to the decades-old border dispute.
