Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Special Correspondent
In a statement here, the APGDA president, Krishna Reddy, said that such allegations would put additional burden on the health system and demoralise the doctors and other paramedical staff "who are working under stressful conditions". He wanted the Government to take steps to discourage those making false charges to keep up the morale of the doctors. To substantiate his point on the stressful conditions under which the doctors were working at Sultan Bazar Government Maternity Hospital, he said the number of normal deliveries had doubled and the caesarean sections have increased by four times during the last 20 years. The caesarean sections had increased from 434 in 1984 to 1,935 in 2002. The major operations performed at the hospital went up from 1,960 in 1984 to 4,516 in 2002. Similarly, the out patient (OP) attendance had also tripled. Stating that there was no corresponding increase in the staff strength in spite of the huge rise in the number of operations and OP patients, he requested the Government to increase the number of doctors and paramedical staff so that better services could be rendered to the poor and needy.
