Meanwhile, the deputy leader of the Opposition, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, has been given the overall charge of the LDF election campaign in Thiruvalla, according to LDF sources. Considering the Thiruvalla by-poll a `crucial' political event, the CPI(M) has reportedly decided to deploy a special election campaign squad led by a party secretariat member in each panchayat in the Assembly segment. Special squads of women and students will also be deployed in each panchayat, besides ensuring active participation of cultural leaders through out the poll campaign, sources say. The young LDF MLAs from all the 14 districts in the State would also be deployed for the election campaign right from the beginning.
CM to open UDF convention
The UDF election convention in the constituency will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, in Thiruvalla on Tuesday afternoon. The DCC president, K. Sivadasan Nair, who is also the UDF district convener, said that the KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, would also address the meeting, besides the UDF convener, Oommen Chandy and the leaders of different UDF partners.
`I' group meet today
Meanwhile, several `I' group leaders in the district have told the The Hindu that the group was most likely to take a `decision' not to take part in the UDF poll campaign in Thiruvalla, as in the just-concluded Ernakulam by-elections. According to the sources, a final decision to this effect will be taken at the proposed `I' group convention to be held here tomorrow afternoon. The Health Minister, P. Sankaran, and the Electricity Minister, Kadavoor Sivadasan, are expected to attend tomorrow's group meeting in Pathanamthitta. The KPCC general secretaries, Rajmohan Unnithan, N. Venugopal and K. P. Kunjhikkaan, P. C. Chacko, Malethu Saraladevi, Adoor Prakash, both MLAs and Saratchandraprasad would also attend tomorrow's `I' group convention, the sources said.
