The inaugural film will be Caroline Link's Nowhere in Africa, a winner of the 2003 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. The other German films lined up for the festival are Annaluise and Anton, Vaya con Dios, The Experiment, Wia die Zeit vergeht, Comedian Harmonists, Love Scenes from Planet Earth, The Hypocrites and Tattoo. The Indian films that will be featured are Shadow Kill (Nizhalkkuthu) by Adoor Gopalakrishnan; The Last Dance (Vanaprastham) by Shaji Karun; The Rite — A Passion (Tiladaanam) by K.N.T. Sastry; Show by G. Neelakanta Reddy; A Peck on the Cheek (Kannathil Muttamittal) by Mani Ratnam; Young One (Kutty) by Janaki Viswanathan; Island (Dweepa) by Girish Kasaravalli; Silent One (Mouni) by Lingadevaru and Deveeri by Kavita Lankesh. The films will be screened at Symphony and Rex cinemas. There will be no entry fee. Limited entry passes will be issued from Monday at Max Mueller Bhavan during working hours. The pass will allow entry to all the film screenings. According to the festival organisers, the event aims at "fostering bilateral and cultural relations between India and Germany, establishing a unique platform for interaction between filmmakers from both countries, initiating a meaningful dialogue between German and Indian film experts in production, technique, infrastructure, development and trade.'' The film screenings will be complemented by seminars and workshops on "Film Techniques for the Future'', "Film Technology made in Bavaria'', "ARRI in the Digital Age of Film'', "Film Business in the Shadow of Bollywood and Hollywood'' and "Film locations as a distinctive feature''. A high-level delegation of filmmakers, producers, technicians and trade personnel from Germany will interact with their Indian counterparts during the festival and explore the possibilities for joint ventures and collaborations.
