Not proper

Sir, — The proposal to vest the POTA Review Committee with powers to decide on the validity and propriety of the actions taken under the statute is not in the interest of justice.

Conferring judicial powers on the Review Committee is not proper. It may give room for decisions based on considerations other than the law.

V. Subrahmaniyam,
Hyderabad

* * *

Sir, — Venkaiah Naidu, BJP president, has appealed to the States to maintain the sanctity of POTA and warned against using it for political purposes( Oct. 27 ).

The "appeal" and the "warning" should come from the Prime Minister or the Deputy Prime Minister or the Union Law Minister. The State Chief Ministers are not obliged to heed the advice of the BJP.

V.N. Gopal,
Chennai
