Nihal downs Ashwani

BANGALORE Oct. 27. Nihal Kapoor of Maharashtra rallied to beat Ashwani Nambiar of Tamil Nadu 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 in the final qualifying round and made the main draw in the boys' under-14 singles event of the AITA Super Series (under-14 ) tennis championship at the KSLTA Stadium here today.

In the girls section, one sided encounters marked the final qualifying ties. Apoorva (Karnataka), Kelsey, Prarthana Pattabhi, Preethi Srinivasan (all Tamil Nadu) and Karamjit Kaur (Karnataka) qualified for the main draw.

The results (final qualifying round): Boys: Sohan Dal Bhanjan (Mah) bt J.R. Sandeep (TN) 6-2, 5-7, 6-4; Nihal Kapoor (Mah) bt Ashwani Nambiar (TN) 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1; Daniel Raj (AP) bt Aroon Khatter (Mah) 6-1, 6-0; Ulv Sodhi (Mah) bt V.J. Suryanarayanan (TN) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Girls: Apoorva (Kar) bt Cindana (TN) 6-2, 6-3; Kelsey (TN) bt A. Lubna Mariam (TN) 6-0, 6-1; Prarthana Pattabhi (TN) bt Spoorthi (Kar ) 6-0, 6-3; Preethi Srinivasan (TN) bt Yamini Reddy (Kar) 6-1, 6-4; Karamjit Kaur (Kar ) bt A. Swaroopa (Kar) 6-1, 6-1.
