National under-7 meet inaugurated

Thalambur Oct. 27. The Vels Srinivas College of Engineering and Technology 17th National under-7 boys and girls' chess championship was inaugurated today with almost all the entries having come in and the Arbiters having a tough time in deciding the top seed.

A record number of 63 girls, up from 56, are participating in the girls' section. And in the boys' category, the number of entries is 108, down by 18 from Lucknow last year. This is a 11-round Swiss system tournament and will conclude on November 3.

The Chief General Manager of BSNL, Tamil Nadu Circle, K. Mahadevan, inaugurated the meet and film artiste Prabhu Deva was the guest of honour.

The first round begins at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
