NEW DELHI, OCT. 27. Three passenger vehicles from Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Hyundai Motor India have emerged as leaders in the country so far as the highest resale value of used-cars is concerned. According to the findings recorded by the global market research firm, NFO Automotive, and released to the media today, Hyundai's compact car Santro, the mid-size car Accent, and Toyota's multi-utility vehicle Qualis have been adjudged the top three models that have the maximum resale value. The firm said in its latest used car buyer study (UCBS) that it analysed two-year old vehicles across 26 models on the depreciation index and found that Maruti 800 (entry-level), Santro, Tata Motors' Indica (compact car in diesel category), Accent, Honda City (premium mid-size car) and Qualis to be leading their respective segments. The 2003 UCBS was based on the feedback from 4,741 used-car owners, covering 2-6 years old vehicles while the depreciation index was calculated using only two year old vehicles to ensure consistency across 26 models covered in the study. "It is not surprising that the top-ranking models in each segment are also the volume selling models in the marketplace. The best selling cars are those that offer best value in the long run which includes the resale value,'' NFO Automotive General Manager, Rajeev Lochan, observed. Elaborating further on the study based on owner-provided data, he said the study also revealed that customers were willing to pay more for certified used cars. Buyers were ready pay 5-10 per cent more for pre-owned cars, which were certified by the manufacturer as such vehicles come with warranty, he said.
