Marjorie Godfrey dies

HYDERABAD OCT. 27. The former nominated Member of Parliament and State Legislature, Marjorie Godfrey, passed away this morning after brief illness. She was 83 and is survived by a son and a daughter.

Marjorie Godfrey, a well-known figure in Anglo-Indian community, was admitted in a city-based hospital after she developed respiratory problems. She suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday morning. (Godfrey's daughter, Della Godfrey, is a nominated MLA in the State Assembly).

The Andhra Pradesh Council of Churches condoled the death of the former MP and said it had lost a leader of principles. Marjorie Godfrey belonged to one of the first batches of women political leaders and was known for her forthright approach to issues. She spent a major part of her life in public service and made a name for herself in the Anglo-Indian community, the Church and politics, the council stated in a press release.

The Catholic Association of Hyderabad, of which she was the founder, condoled her death and said it was a great loss to the community. Ms. Della Godfrey, stated in a press release that the funeral would take place on Thursday morning.
