This Day That Age
Jewish leaders in the U.S. accompanied by Senator Herbert Lahman (Democrat) and Mr. Jacob Javits, Republican member of the House of Representatives both from New York met on the 27th Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, and asked him to re-examine the policy of delaying United States aid to Israel. The Administration had earlier suspended 60 million dollars aid to Israel after the latter refused to delay a Jordan River hydro-electric project on the Syrian border. Mr. Javits said "Impeding, or delaying, development by Israel of its own resources, will not advance the policy of peace in the Near East; it will retard it by encouraging aggressor Arab elements to intensify their hostility against Israel and keep the Near East in turmoil."
