Dean maintains lead

Washington oct. 28. The former Governor of Vermont, Howard Dean, continues to maintain a solid double-digit lead in New Hampshire over the Democratic Senator from Massachussetts, John Kerry, in the Presidential nomination race.

An outspoken critic of the President, George Bush's domestic and foreign policies, Mr. Dean is also at the top of the Democratic pack when party and independent voters were asked to name the `strongest' candidate to defeat Mr. Bush.

And when it comes to the `strongest' candidate, the Vermonter holds a 15-point advantage — 35 per cent to 20 per cent.

The poll is critical in that it is the second state after Iowa that heads to the primaries in the last week of January; and for those candidates who are in the top tier, Iowa and New Hampshire either add momentum to the race or show them the other option — of getting out of the race.

Polls in Iowa have shown Mr. Dean consistently either in the first or second place.
