on Tuesday. The excavation was being carried out at Swayambhu Shambu temple on the fort premises when the idols were found. The temple was constructed by the Kakatiya ruler, Ganapati Deva, in 1152 AD. The idols of Veerabhadra, Ganesha, Vishnumurthy, Veera Balludu, Bhairavamurthy, Nandi and Mahishasuramardhani were among those found. Officials inferred that Kakatiya rulers buried the idols to protect them during the invasion of Malik Kafur. On coming know about it, people in large numbers thronged the fort and offered prayers to the idols. The Deputy Mayor, K. Saraiah, and the temple priest Sankaraiah, said the idols would be installed in the temple soon.
