`Threatening calls' to Gadar continue

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD OCT. 28. Callers claiming to be speaking on behalf of `Green Tigers' were harassing Gadar with threatening calls, the balladeer's wife, Vimala, alleged at a press conference here on Tuesday.

Mrs. Vimala played the conversation between her and a person claiming to be Haribhushan of the `Green Tigers' recorded when a call was made last night, said the issue was brought to the notice of police but no action had been initiated so far. The calls were being made from Warangal, Dichpally, Kamareddy and other places and all the numbers from which the calls originated have been given to the police, she said.

The callers threatened to eliminate Gadar and ended yesterday's conversation with a warning that it was their last call and it would be followed with direct action, she said.

Senior police officers at Warangal had been informed of the threats and letters to the effect were sent to the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, the Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu, and leaders of the Congress and the BJP, she said. Demanding immediate action against those making the threatening calls, Mrs.Vimala said, "the Government will be held responsible if anything happens to Gadar".

Representatives of a Joint Action Committee who were present at the press conference demanded a probe into the threat calls received repeatedly by Gadar.

Khaleeq Ahmed Sabir, co-ordinator of the committee, described as `disturbing' the reported decision of the police to pick up six activists of the Revolutionary Writers' Association and sought their immediate release.
