A Bench, comprising Justices Shivaraj V. Patil and D.M. Dharmadhikari, asked the medical colleges concerned to file their response within four weeks. The directions were issued on a public interest petition following a report by the MCI after conducting an inspection of the infrastructure facilities available in these colleges as per the September 23 court order. The MCI, in its first inspection report, had pointed out deficiencies in 10 medical colleges, including five in Andhra Pradesh. The MCI was permitted by the court to file its affidavit, making its stand clear about the steps taken by it in this regard.Since the MCI was the apex governing body for medical education and granting recognition to every medical college, it was asked to make its stand clear on the recognition and enhancement in the intake of students in these colleges. The court had on September 23 directed the MCI to make fresh inspections of 10 medical colleges following a report by the court-appointed ad hoc committee of four expert doctors.
