Drug charges: detention continues

By Atul Aneja

MANAMA Oct.28 . Four Indians belonging to prominent Mumbai families continue to be detained on drug charges by authorities in the United Arab Emirates .

The four who have been arrested in Dubai are Farhan Azmi, son of the Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, Shaan Sippy, grandson of filmmaker G.P Sippy, Bonie Chabria, son of the car designer Dilip Chabria, and Prakash Dandekar.

They are said to have been taken to the Ar Rifa police station in Dubai after being subjected to a drugs test and after allegedly recovering an undisclosed amount of narcotics from them.

Highly placed sources said the four were detained after the Dubai police raided a hotel said to be managed by the mafia kingpin Iqbal Mirchi.

The Dubai police, who grew suspicions of the group's involvement in drug-related activity raided the hotel.

Mr. Farhan Azmi is a Mumbai-based hotelier while Prakash Dandekar is believed to be a student in the U. S. who was on a vacation in Mumbai, before he landed in Dubai with his friends.
