Tax returns of salariat not to be scrutinised

NEW DELHI OCT. 28. The Income Tax Department has decided not to scrutinise the tax returns of the salaried class to save them from harassment.

"The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has taken a decision to exclude this segment during the current fiscal from tax scrutiny, making a departure from the past," said the CBDT Chairman, P.L. Singh.

In earlier years, salaried people were selected at random for scrutiny. "The Commissioners and the Chief Commissioners have been given the power to take decision regarding the returns filed by the salaried class," Mr. Singh said.
