'Jogi bags' seized

Raipur Oct. 28. The BJP workers of Chhattisgarh today seized another truckload of school bags with the Chief Minister, Ajit Jogi's image on them even as the Election Commission has banned both its procurement and distribution since Friday last in view of the coming Assembly polls in the State.

The truck loaded with school bags was caught by BJP workers, near Khursipar, and taken to Chhawni police station in the Durg district, a State BJP spokesman said here. The bags, hidden under tomatoes, were seized on Monday at the Supela Market by the party. The Durg Senior Superintendent of Police, Ashok Juneja, confirmed the incident and said through the Collector they have sought direction from the Election Commission what to do with the seized bags. — PTI

EC vexed over defiance

The Election Commission has indicated its growing impatience over reports of misuse of official machinery ahead of the coming Assembly elections.

Reacting to reports that despite the Election Commission ban, a consignment of school bags carrying Mr. Jogi's picture was recovered, the Chief Election Commissioner, J.M. Lyngdoh, told NDTV in New Delhi that "it just substantiates my argument that politicians are becoming worse and worse. We are getting more and more complaints but we will deal with them. We are checking everything".

He also warned the candidates not to exceed the new limits for election expenditure.

"I daresay that if people exceed the limit, I am afraid that there will be a whole lot of cases in the court," Mr. Lyngdoh said making it clear that the Commission would take those who exceed election accounts to court after scrutiny.
