BJP to intensify campaign against Krishna Govt.

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Oct. 28. The second phase of the BJP's "Janasangharsha Yatra" with the slogan, "Oust Congress and save Karnataka" to protest against what the party terms the Government's misrule was launched with a symbolic dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue here today.

While the party would announce the details of the second phase of the campaign, senior leaders, headed by the President of the BJP State unit, H.N. Ananth Kumar, declared that the campaign would cover all the 29,500 villages and 300 urban centres.

Addressing party workers at the venue of the dharna, Mr. Kumar and others criticised the Government for its "failure on virtually all fronts" and charged it with conniving with promoters of the online lottery scheme and anti-social elements involved in the multi-crore stamp paper racket.

Referring to the spate of complaints about large-scale malpractice in the implementation of the food for work programme brought to their notice by the people during the 11-day first phase of the campaign from Nelamangala to Bidar, the speakers regretted that no inquiry had been ordered in the matter by the Government.

The Chairman of party's Campaign Committee, B.S. Yediyurappa, charged that the Government was hesitating to scrap the online lottery scheme despite the strong demand from the people during the "Janaspandana Yatra" undertaken by the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, as the Government had a vested interest in the scheme.

Mr. Yediyurappa alleged that the Government was against a CBI inquiry into the stamp paper racket as it feared it would expose the role of the Minister for Small-scale Industries, R. Roshan Baig.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, said those selected for government service under the rural weightage quota were suffering today because of the Government's failure to effectively present its case before the courts.
