Karnataka
By K.V. Subramanya
Bowing to pressure from the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, the Government removed Mr. Nanjundaswamy as SP of Hassan, the home district of Mr. Gowda. But, the Government has now posted Mr. Nanjundaswamy as DCP (South), Bangalore, under whose jurisdiction, Mr. Gowda's "second home", Padmanabhanagar, falls. Mr. Gowda's house, some business establishments owned by his family members, and the D.G. Hospital run by his son-in-law are all located in Padmanabhanagar in Banashankari police station limits. Further, many areas falling under the Kanakapura Lok Sabha constituency represented by Mr. Gowda are also under the jurisdiction of the DCP (South). A large number of new extension areas and villages falling under the Uttarahalli Assembly segment, which is part of the Kanakapura Lok Sabha constituency, are in the jurisdiction of the South Division police. The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), in which Mr. Gowda's son and former Minister, H.D. Revanna, has high stakes, is also located in the same jurisdiction. Though Mr. Gowda and his supporters may be elated over the transfer of Mr. Nanjundaswamy, his new posting is likely to cause them some heartburn. On the other hand, the DCP (South), Bhaskar Rao, who has been transferred, is yet to get a posting. After Mr. Rao returned from a United Nations (UN) assignment in strife-hit Kosovo three years ago, he was not given a posting for more than eight months. Though he was posted as SP, Uttara Kannada and Chitradurga, the orders were cancelled even before he could report for duty. Later, he was made the SP of Bangalore Rural District. But he was transferred within a short time following a group clash in Bidadi. Mr. Rao was then posted as Managing Director of KEONICS only to be removed from that post within a few months. He was not given any posting for over four months until he was made the DCP (South) three months ago. Again Mr. Rao has been transferred without a posting.
