12 inmates of juvenile home escape

HYDERABAD OCT. 28. Twelve inmates of the Government Juvenile Home for Boys, Saidabad, escaped in the wee hours of Tuesday. Two of its employees -- Venkati and Sadanandam - were suspended in this connection. While the children ran away at around 2.40 a.m., the Home Superintendent, P. Sukumar, lodged a complaint with the Saidabad police at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

All the children were put up in the first floor of the building. The first floor had two halls. While the inmates were residing in one hall, the other was being used for recreational purposes. The children removed window grills, entered the corridor on the ground floor and fled by jumping down the compound wall, the Malakpet ACP, S. Vishwanatham, said. Four employees -- Venkati, Sadanandam, Anji Babu and Veera Swamy -- were on night duty.

The children who escaped were: Mahender (10) of Patancheru, Udayagiri alias Ashok (15) of Shapurnagar, Naresh (10) of Bathkammakunta, Vasudev (10) of Nampally, Mallesh (9) of Patancheru, Suneeel Kumar (10) of Yousufguda, Prabhakar (15) of Amberpet, Rafeeq (12) of Nirmal, Aslam (8) of Nizamabad, Deva (14) of Bijapur and Datta (14) of Nayapur in Maharashtra and Mahender (14) of Pallipuram in Mahabubnagar district.
