I-T official, advocate arrested

NEW DELHI OCT. 28. The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Deputy Director of Income Tax posted at Anand and an advocate for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 3 lakhs from a complainant and accepting Rs. 15,000 and five fixed deposit receipts worth Rs. 3.65 lakhs.

The Income Tax Deputy Director (Investigation), G.M. Brahmbhatt, who was looking into the case of the complainant, had allegedly directed him to meet the advocate, Arpit Shah, for settling the matter.

The office and residential premises of the Income Tax official were searched and assets worth Rs. 38 lakhs were found, including investments worth Rs. 24 lakhs, the CBI said.

Both the official and the advocate have been remanded to CBI custody till October 30.
