Shishir ousts Mehlad

GULBARGA Oct. 29. In a day of mild upsets sixth-seeded Mehlad Jitender of Delhi was shown the door by Karnataka's Shishir Patil in straight sets in the boys' section and eighth-seeded Sanjana Gopal of Karnataka was defeated by her compatriot Divya Vijaykumar in AITA all-India under-18 tennis championship at the Chandrasekhar Patil Stadium complex here today.

While unseeded Shishir defeated Mehlad 6-4, 7-5 to enter the pre-quarterfinal round in the boys' section, unseeded Divya beat Sanjana 6-2, 7-5 to enter the quarterfinals.

Top-seeded Siddarth Patil of Maharashtra toyed with an inexperienced Parivel of Tamil Nadu who retired after losing the first set 1-6 and trailing 0-1 in the second.
