Smooth sailing for seeds

BANGALORE Oct. 29. It was smooth sailing for fancied players in the AITA Super Series under-14 championship at the KSLTA Stadium here on Wednesday.

Leading the way was the top seed, Mesheer Vaswani of Karnataka who crushed G. Walia of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-0 and Tamil Nadu's Tariq Jacob, the second seed, notched up a facile 6-3, 6-1 win over Priyank Gangadharan 6-3, 6-1.

The only tie which went to the distance was between Vikram Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and qualifier Nitesh. Nitesh extended his rival to three sets before going down at 5-7, 6-3, 4-6.

In the girls' section, the second-seeded Akshitha B. Raju blanked S. Kirthika of Tamil Nadu 6-0, 6-0. The other seeded players who won their opening rounds were the fourth seed Prerna Mythri, Surbahi Verma (fifth seed) and No. 6 M. Niroshita.
